Best Corrugated Shipping Boxes for Toronto Ecommerce

How Toronto ecommerce sellers should choose corrugated shipping boxes and shipping supplies: the core sizes to stock, single vs. double wall, and how to cut damage and shipping costs.

Best Corrugated Shipping Boxes for Toronto Ecommerce

For most Toronto ecommerce sellers, the best setup is a small range of standard 32 ECT single-wall boxes in four or five core sizes: upgraded to custom double-wall only for heavy or fragile items. That keeps shipping costs and damage rates low while covering the large majority of orders. Here's how to pick your core sizes, when to deviate, and where to source them fast in the GTA.

Why shipping box choice makes or breaks ecommerce margins

Two hidden costs quietly eat into online sellers' margins, and both trace back to the box:

- Dimensional weight. Couriers bill the greater of actual or volume-based weight. Ship a small product in an oversized box and you pay to move air. Right-sized boxes directly lower every shipping label.
- Damage and returns. A box that's too big (product rattles) or too weak (crushes in transit) means damaged goods, refunds, and reships. The right box is cheaper than a single return.

The goal isn't the cheapest box, it's the box that ships your product safely at the lowest *total* cost. For most orders, that's standard 32 ECT single-wall: strong enough for everyday parcels, light enough to keep dimensional weight down, and FSC-certified and recyclable if your customers care about sustainability.

The core box sizes most Toronto and GTA sellers should stock

You don't need 100 sizes — you need the four or five that cover ~80% of your orders, plus a couple of specialty sizes. A solid starting kit:

| Size (L×W×H) | Covers | Approx. price/box |

| 8×6×4" | Small items, accessories, single SKUs | ~$0.50 |
| 10×8×6" | Standard products, small apparel | ~$0.79 |
| 12×9×4" | Flat items, folded apparel, documents | ~$0.89 |
| 12×12×8" | Medium multi-item orders | ~$1.26 |
| 16×12×6" | Larger or bundled orders | ~$1.42 |

Add a 14×14×14" or similar cube for bulky-but-light items, and you've covered most of what a typical Toronto shop ships. Pricing drops further at bulk (250-unit) quantities.

Rule of thumb: track your last 100 orders, note the product sizes, and let that pick your core boxes. Stocking to your actual order mix beats guessing.

Single-wall vs. double-wall shipping boxes for ecommerce

For the overwhelming majority of ecommerce parcels: apparel, accessories, homewares, most electronics. 32 ECT single-wall is the right choice. It handles up to about 65 lbs of gross weight when properly packed, which covers nearly everything a typical online order weighs.

Step up to custom double-wall only when you ship:

- Individually heavy items (over ~65 lbs),
- Dense or sharp products that could puncture a wall, or
- High-value or fragile goods where damage cost dwarfs the box cost.

We produce double-wall to spec on request: most sellers keep single-wall as their standard and order double-wall just for a fragile SKU or two.

Protecting fragile items without over-packing

Over-packing is as costly as under-packing: more materials, more weight, more spend. The efficient approach:

- Size the box snugly, then add about an inch of cushioning around the product rather than drowning it in fill in an oversized box.
- Stabilize with stretch wrap for multi-item or palletized B2B orders: our 16" and 20" hand rolls keep loads from shifting in transit.
- Seal properly. Use the H-tape method (center seam plus both edge seams, top and bottom) with 2" 2.0 mil tape. A well-sealed box is a huge share of whether it survives the courier network.

Source locally for fast restocks

The practical advantage of buying boxes in the GTA rather than from a national warehouse: you don't run out. Local delivery and North York, Mississauga, and Scarborough pickup mean you can restock a size mid-week without pausing fulfillment: no minimum-order-for-free-shipping games, no waiting days for a pallet.
