What actually drives corrugated shipping box pricing
Four factors move the price on a corrugated shipping box:
1. Size. The single biggest driver: more board means more cost. A 4×4×4" box is a few cents; a 24×24×24" is several dollars.
2. Quantity. Shipping boxes sell in bundles, and per-box cost drops at higher volumes. Ordering 250 of a size instead of 25 lowers the unit price on many boxes.
3. Board type. Standard 32 ECT single-wall covers most needs at the prices below. Heavier double-wall (for loads over ~65 lbs or fragile goods) is a custom order and priced separately.
4. Custom specs. Non-standard sizes, printing, or special board are quoted individually.
Everything below is standard 32 ECT single-wall, FSC-certified and recyclable — the grade most GTA shipping and storage runs on.

The pattern to notice: small and mid-size boxes — the ones businesses reorder constantly — get the clearest bulk savings, often around 10% at the 250 tier. Larger, lower-volume sizes hold a flat price. If you go through boxes weekly, buying at the higher tier is where the real savings sit.
Step 3: ECT vs. Mullen (burst): which rating should you look at?
Shipping boxes are sold in bundle quantities, not singles. Smaller sizes ship in bundles of 25; the largest sizes come in bundles of 10–20 (they take more space). To hit the lower 250-unit price, you order ten bundles of a size.
For a working example: a business shipping in 16×12×6" boxes pays $1.42 each. Order 250 and you're stocked for months at the same low unit price with one delivery instead of weekly top-ups.
What about packaging tape and stretch wrap?
Boxes are only half the shipment. Current pricing on the supplies that seal and stabilize them:
- Packing tape (2" × 110 yd, 2.0 mil, clear or tan): $3.00 / roll, or $72.00 / case of 36, about $2.00 per roll in case quantity.
- Stretch wrap (hand rolls, high cling and puncture resistance):
- 16" × 1500': $68.00 / case of 4 (~$17/roll)
- 20" × 1785': $108.00 / case of 4 (~$27/roll)
Buying packaging tape by the case is the easy win here, it roughly cuts the per-roll cost by a third versus single rolls.
Step 5: When you need more than standard single-wall
Two things are quoted individually rather than listed:
- Custom sizes — if none of our 100+ standard sizes fit, we make shipping boxes to your exact dimensions.
- Double-wall board — for heavy (65 lbs+) or fragile shipments that need more than single-wall strength.
Step 6: Match your packaging tape and stretch wrap to the shipping box
1. Right-size your shipping boxes so you're not paying for board (or courier dimensional weight) you don't need.
2. Order at the 250 tier on the sizes you reorder most.
3. Buy packaging tape and stretch wrap by the case, not singly.
